Democrat front-runner Hillary Clinton is now promising to go even further than Barack Obama in opening the door for illegal immigrants to flood across the border into the U.S. saying she’ll go “as far” as she can to welcome illegals.
Appearing at Saturday’s Democrat Party-sponsored Jefferson-Jackson Day Dinner in Des Moines, Iowa, Hillary said that she intends to go “beyond President Obama” in opening the border for illegals. She also insisted that they are “law abiding.”
In a speech that some said was not a game-changing performance, Clinton vowed to let entire families of illegals into the U.S.
According to the Washington Examiner, Hillary told the Democrats gathered, “I am going to back and support what President Obama has done to protect Dreamers and their families, to use executive action to prevent deportation.”
“If we can not get comprehensive immigration reform as we need, and as we should,” she added, “with a real path to citizenship that will actually grow our economy then I will go as far as I can, even beyond President Obama, to make sure law abiding, decent, hard working people in this country are not ripped away from their families.”
The Obama administration has made it a policy to stop arresting and deporting illegals. As early as July the administration instituted a new policy to reduce the level of deportations to its lowest point in his presidency.
This may also mark as one of the last Jefferson-Jackson day events in Iowa as the state party has been mulling the idea of eliminating the celebration because both Thomas Jefferson and Andrew Jackson were slave owners. Iowa has lagged behind a slew of other state parties that have already terminated the annual celebrations because of the tenuous connection to slavery.
